Michele R. McCorkle, MSN, RN, is the Chief Strategy Officer (CSO) of the Oncology Nursing Society (ONS). With 29 years oncology nursing experience and 24 years in association management at ONS, Ms. McCorkle has executive oversight of the ONS Center for Advocacy and Health Policy, business development and global efforts, partnerships, and ONS strategic plan. Ms. McCorkle has facilitated strategic planning processes with both the ONS Board of Directors and the ONS Foundation Board of Directors. Prior to assuming the CSO role, Ms. McCorkle served as the Executive Director for ONS, developed and led ONS’s first successful for-profit subsidiary, Oncology Education Services, Inc., and served as the Assistant Director of Education for ONS.



Prior to joining ONS as staff, Ms. McCorkle was Patient Care Manager, Staff Development Instructor, and Clinical Nurse at the University of Pittsburgh Cancer Institute (now part of the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center, UPMC Hillman Cancer Center). She received both her BSN and MSN from the University of Pittsburgh School of Nursing. Ms. McCorkle is currently enrolled in the Health Systems Executive Leadership Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) program at the University of Pittsburgh School of Nursing where her work is being supported by a Graduate Scholarship in Cancer Nursing Practice, GSCNP-17-118-01, from the American Cancer Society. Ms. McCorkle’s DNP project will focus on identifying barriers and facilitators to implementing a 12-week walking program in an outpatient breast clinic for women with stage 1-3 breast cancer.
