Maya Leiva is a Board Certified Oncology Pharmacist and Senior Oncology Pharmacist at Sutter Sacramento Cancer Center and an Associate Professor of Pharmacy Practice at West Coast University School of Pharmacy. She received her pharmacy degree at Loma Linda University School of Pharmacy in 2010. Prior to pharmacy school, she completed her B.S. in Microbiology and was an NIH Fellow in the RISE program while pursuing her M.S. in Microbiology. She has subspecialties in supportive care, palliative care, immuno-oncology, clinical informatics, disaster preparedness, oncology stewardship, and health equity. She most recently assisted the Inova health System to complete its first Health Equality Index survey through the Human Rights Campaign, achieving top performer status (90 points and above) as Chair of Inova Pride, a system wide Team Member Resource Group for LGBTQ+ employees. Her clinical research interests include the use of phytocannabinoids in the supportive care of cancer patients, optimizing supportive care measures for patients experiencing treatment related toxicities, reducing health disparities among historically marginalized communities spanning from cancer screening to diagnosis and treatment, and implementation of oncology stewardship to reduce financial toxicities to patients and the health care system.
