Stephen T. Smith, RPh., M.S., FASHP, Chief Pharmacy Officer leads and directs Pharmacy Services within the Karmanos Cancer Center, it’s associated network, and select parts of the McLaren Health System. He oversees all pharmacy functions at the Detroit campus including personnel, operational, clinical and financial activities.
In addition to acute care services, he directs the ambulatory retail pharmacy, a system-based Specialty Pharmacy, and the Investigational Drug Pharmacy Service. Steve has worked in various Detroit based health systems and is most recently employed by Comprehensive Pharmacy Services (CPS).
Steve earned a Master of Science in Hospital Pharmacy Administration from Wayne State University and a Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy from the University of Michigan. He is a member of the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists, the Hematology Oncology Pharmacy Association, National Association of Specialty Pharmacy, the Michigan Pharmacists Association and a number of other professional organizations. Steve has served in various committee roles as well an association officer for local, state, and national Pharmacy professional organizations
Throughout his career, Steve’s work has been recognized with a number of awards, including Pharmacy Systems Inc. 2017 Award for Outstanding Contributor of Quality. In 2009, he received the Fellow of Michigan Pharmacists Award (MPA) to recognize achievements and dedication to the practice of pharmacy, the community and MPA. That same year, he was honored with “Lifetime Recognition for sustained achievements in Pharmacy Practice” by MPA. In 2000, Steve was named a Fellow of the American Society of Health systems Pharmacists.

In his spare time, Steve enjoys gardening and relaxing at the family cottage.
