Jody Pelusi, PhD, FNP, AOCNP, is an oncology nurse practitioner at Honor Health Research Institute in Scottsdale, Arizona where she cares for oncology patients undergoing Phase 1 Clinical Trials and also those receiving Standard of Care therapies. She also works part time at Yavapai Regional Medical Center in their Surgical Breast Oncology practice providing education, survivorship planning and genetic risk assessment and testing. She also has her own Education and Consulting Service which develops CEU program- including monitoring and managing oral oncolytics and other oncology related topics.
Dr. Jody Pelusi is recognized as an Advanced Oncology Certified Nurse Practitioner by the National Oncology Nursing Society. She has 45 years + of experience in oncology care in a multitude of settings. Her research focuses on long term cancer survivorship issues for the individual with cancer and their partner, educational needs of cancer caregivers, and implementing oral chemotherapy medication programs into private practice.
She received her PhD in Nursing from the University of Arizona with a minor in Public Administration and Health Policy. She received her Bachelor degree in Nursing, Masters in Nursing Science with a specialty in Community Health Nursing and a Family Nurse Practitioner degree from Arizona State University and her associate degrees in Nursing and Radiological Technology from Northern Arizona University. She currently works as an oncology nurse practitioner and researcher.
Dr. Pelusi has had a 4 year appointment to the FDA’s Oncological Drug Advisory Committee where she was the first nurse and first non physician to serve on this Committee. She also served on the FDA ‘s ODAC Pediatric Sub-Committee and Quality of Life Sub-Committee. She has previously served on the National Oncology Nursing Society’s Board of Directors and is currently on the Governing Board of the ICC (Intercultural Cancer Council). She is active with a number of cancer and nursing societies and regularly gives lectures to both public and professional audiences regionally, nationally, and internationally. She has started many support groups and caregivers programs.
Her national and state awards and honors include: ONS ‘s Excellence in Cancer Education Award, ONS’s Susan Baird Writing Award for Nursing Research, Macy’s Heart and Soul Community Service Award, Kellogg’s Making a Difference Award for Community Service and Awareness, Paul Singer Outstanding Community Service Award and the American Cancer Society’s Lane Adams Award, Distinguished Service Award, and Special Service Award.
