Scottsdale...Fast Facts 

  • You can actually go to college in Scottsdale to earn a degree in being a cowboy. It’s called the Arizona Cowboy College. 
  • Scottsdale fire trucks are just a little bit different. Rather than the usual boring red, the city went with a more original color: Chartreuse.
  • Founder Winfield Scott and brother George originally gave the town the name “Orangedale,” due to the large citrus groves they were so great at planting and harvesting. The city didn’t get its current name until 1894.
  • Believe it or not, Scottsdale is only four hours from the ocean. Seriously.
  • You have to love chili in this city. It’s been the official food since 1994.
  • Ice cream made of prickly pears (a type of edible cactus) is a staple dessert cuisine in Scottsdale.
  • Scottsdale holds the record for the largest number of destination spas per capita in the entire nation.
  • Be sure to stock up on sunscreen in this city—Scottsdale gets an astounding 314 days of sun a year. 

Camelback Mountain 

Camelback Mountain, with an elevation of 2,704 feet, is an excellent hike or climb in Arizona. Camelback became a Phoenix city park in 1968 and hiking it is one of the top 10 things to do in the Scottsdale/Phoenix area. The most common Flora on the Mountain are the Saguaro Cactus, Ocotillo, Palo Verde, Cholla, Barrel Cactus and the Creosote Bush. There are 2 hiking trails, Echo Canyon & Cholla. Both trails are difficult, while Echo Canyon is stepper and Cholla is longer. 

 

Scottsdale Fashion Square

Located in Scottsdale, AZ – Scottsdale Fashion Square is a top shopping destination with more than 240 specialty stores and restaurants. Visit top retailers like Neiman Marcus, Nordstrom, Dillard's, Macy's, and Apple and dine at Nobu, Ocean 44, Francine, Toca Madera, and Zinque.

When you walk out onto the hot sidewalks of Old Town you might think you’ve stepped into the Wild West. The heart of Scottsdale, Old Town has both modern stores and restaurants and some Scottsdale institutions. For this reason, the whole area is one of the popular attractions in Scottsdale.
