ABOUT DETROIT

Detroit is know as the 'Motor City' and best known for as the birthplace for the modern automobile which is showcased at the Henry Ford Museum. Participating in the PSO Meeting provides a wonderful opportunity to experience the Henry Ford Museum on the first night when you arrive! You'll take a step back in time as you explore the history of the automobile. Today, the "Big Three" auto manufactures General Motors, Ford and Stellantis NA (Dodge, Jeep and Ram) are all headquartered in the Detroit Metro. Detroit also has a rich history in art and music, and is the known for its roots in motown music. The Motown Museum is where legends like Marvin Gaye and Michael Jackson got their start, and the studio that produced hits such as Ain't No Mountain High Enough. Detroit is also known for its influence in art, architecture and design. 

DETROIT NEIGHBORHOODS

Corktown

Located just west of downtown, Corktown is one of Detroit's oldest neighborhoods and is heavy with Irish influence. It is one of the most up-and-coming neighborhoods in the city featuring boutique hotels and excellent eatery's at the old Michigan Central Station. Corktown is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. 

 

The District

The District's main feature is Little Caesars Arena which is home to the Detroit Red Wings, Detroit Pistons, concerts and entertainment. The area also has 50 blocks of excellent retail and dining establishments, including the District Market, inspired by New York City food halls bringing together six concessions in one. 

 

Eastern Market

The Eastern Market has been a staple of Detroit life for over 150 years, bringing together farmers, vendors and eager consumers. When visiting the district, you can shop for everything from fresh produce to clothing, art, jewelry and items you might not even know existed. With over 225 different vendors, trendy cafes and restaurants are mixed in among the mural-covered city blocks. After a day of shopping, visit the nearby Bert's Warehouse Theatre where motown music plays deep into the night. 

 

Entertainment District

The Entertainment District is the hub for the cities theatre and sporting events at Comerica Park and Ford Field. Visit the historic Art Deco diner, Ellwood Bar & Grill, or grab a gourmet burger at Rusted Crow. 

 

Greektown

The vibrant neighborhood was formed when a large population of Greek immigrants moved to Detroit in the 20th century. All restaurants offer traditional Greek cuisine with a lively atmosphere that could be confused with Greece itself! After visiting one of the iconic greek restaurants, do not leave Greektown without trying a flaky bougasta pastry for dessert. 

 

Midtown

Home of Wayne State University, Shinola and other main Detroit cultural establishments. You'll find many art galleries, markets and quirky independent retail shops and some of the best cuisine in the Detroit metro. Midtown is one of the most walkable, eccentric areas of Detroit.

 

Rivertown

In the Rivertown district you will find the Detroit International RiverWalk, located along the Detroit River. The area welcomes bikers, walkers and sightseers to explore the river's spectacular views. Rent a bike or take a tour and enjoy the view of Detroit's international neighbor, Canada.

THINGS TO DO

Belle Isle

A stunning 982-acre state park filled with outdoor activities like hiking, fishing, sunbathing and golf. Also home to the Isle Aquarium featuring an impressive collection of colorful reef fish and electric eels.

 

The Belt

One of Detroit's best kept secrets! A downtown alley that has been transformed into a work of art. Named for its location in the former garment district,  the space has been transformed into one of the most dynamic pedestrian-friendly public spaces in the country. The area is home to murals and installations by both local and international artists. 

 

Fox Theatre

The Fox Theatre is home to live productions, musicians, comedic acts and orchestral performances in the heart of downtown. The premier theatre has an ornate grand hall and tops out at 5,000 seats, rivaling a sports arena.
